18 Wines to Try in 2024

Jan 5, 2024

This week, we scavenged the depths of Google and flipped through all our wine textbooks in search of (what we think are) the most interesting wines (in general) to try in 2024. We didn't pick out specific bottles, per se, but listed varietals or just the region we want to dive deeper into this year. Lots of wine from Italy and lots of Syrah because we are loving Syrah right now!

In general, we prioritized wine from regions we haven't yet tried, grapes we haven't yet tasted, or varietals we want to drink more of. We filled the gaps with bucket-list wines of ours, and wines that are, apparently, a must-try amongst wine professionals. Let's begin!

1. All wines from the new West Sonoma Coast AVA, California

2. Syrahs and sparkling wines from Oregon (Eola-Amity Hills, Rocks District of Milton-Freewater AVAs). Check out No Girls

3. Syrahs and Cabernets from Washington State (specifically Red Mountain, Walla Walla, Yakima Valley AVAs of Columbia Valley AVA)

4. Chenin Blanc from Stellenbosch, South Africa

5. Mencía from Ribeira Sacra, Spain

6. Portuguese Blends from Douro DOC, Portugal

7. Wines from Kakheti, Georgia like Jos!

8. Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder) from Germany

9. Wines from the Languedoc-Roussillon, France (such a broad region with so many gems if you put in some work!)

10. Grosjean Wines from Val d'Aosta

11. Tenute Girolamo Primitivo from Puglia

12. Arnaldo Caprai Sagrantino from Umbria

13. Wine from the Swiss/French Alps Region (varietals like Prie Blanc, Trousseau, Poulsard, Savignin)

14. American Cider and Co-ferments (from producers like Scar of the Sea and Aaron Burr Cidery)

15. Rhone Varietals from Paso Robles, California (Tablas Creek leads the way)

16. Italian Varietals from Temecula Valley, CA (We see promise here! Somerset Vineyards is producing some great wine at the moment.)

17. Syrah from Santa Barbara, CA (So many good ones out there, and we want to find them all.)

18. Hybrids from Vermont, Virginia, New York (from producers like La Garagista and North American Press)
