About This Wine

The best Barolo, pound for pound, on the market.

Tasting Notes

“The wine hints at red berry fruits on the nose, suggesting a high -toned and concentrated bouquet, yet it appears coiled, hinting at greater depth waiting to be unleashed. The palate is embraced by firm, gripping tannins— an indication of its youth and promise for development. This is a wine that needs time to mature and reveal its full abundance of flavors. Preserving California’s Historic Vineyards

Founded in 2007 by Morgan Twain-Peterson MW, son of Ravenswood’s Joel Peterson, Bedrock Wine Company was built with a mission to preserve California’s old-vine vineyards. Many of these sites, dating back to the late 1800s, are cultural treasures of the wine world. Bedrock’s role in saving and rehabilitating these vineyards has been pivotal to California’s viticultural heritage.

Farming and Vineyard Sources

The winery works with dozens of historic sites across Sonoma, Napa, Contra Costa, and Lodi. Farming is organic whenever possible and always guided by low-input practices. Key vineyards include Bedrock Vineyard in Sonoma Valley, planted in 1854; Evangelho Vineyard in Contra Costa County, known for its sandy soils and own-rooted vines; and Pagani Ranch in Sonoma, planted in the 1890s.

Winemaking Philosophy

Morgan applies a minimal intervention approach designed to maximize vineyard expression. Fermentations use native yeasts, extraction is gentle, and maturation takes place in a mix of oak foudres, puncheons, and neutral barrels alongside stainless steel. Whites, including the Sauvignon Blanc Musqué, receive the same careful treatment, showing how texture, aromatic lift, and minerality can coexist.

Wine Style and Reputation

Bedrock’s red wines are vibrant, structured, and complex, balancing ripe California fruit with freshness and longevity. The whites are expressive and textured yet retain energy and precision. Consumers and critics alike value Bedrock for its authenticity, transparency, and devotion to preserving California’s old-vine vineyards.

Vite Colte — Crafting Barolo with Collective Heritage

Preserving Piedmont’s Finest Vineyards

Vite Colte began as a qualitative evolution of a larger cooperative, formed with the mission of elevating Barolo and Piedmont wines through rigorous standards and shared dedication. Today it unites about 180 growers farming roughly 300 hectares across the Langhe, Roero and Monferrato hills. Each grower commits to strict protocols, allowing the winery to focus on preserving the region’s viticultural traditions while producing consistently high-quality wines.

Vineyards & Farming

Growers work closely with agronomists to follow vineyard-specific guidelines covering pruning, yield management, canopy balance and harvest timing. Nearly all vineyard work is done by hand. The soils are classic Piedmontese marl and clay, and many of the vineyards sit on prized hillsides that have long been recognized for producing elegant, structured Nebbiolo. This cooperative approach ensures a level of quality and detail that rivals many private estates.

Winemaking Philosophy

The winery itself blends modern precision with regional heritage. Built with energy-efficient and eco-compatible design principles, it’s engineered to respect both the environment and the traditions of the Langhe. Vinification emphasizes balance, purity and terroir transparency.

For “Paesi Tuoi” Barolo, fermentation is controlled at moderate temperatures to achieve gentle extraction. Maceration typically lasts 15–20 days, followed by extended aging in large Slavonian oak casks before bottling. This traditional approach allows Nebbiolo’s tannins to soften while preserving aromatics, structure and longevity.

Wine Style & Reputation

Vite Colte’s wines combine approachability with authenticity. Their Barolos consistently show the lifted aromatics, firm structure and fine tannins the region is known for, while remaining accessible in their youth.

The 2020 “Paesi Tuoi” displays classic notes of dried cherry, violet, spice, licorice and tobacco, layered over a mineral and subtly earthy backbone. The palate is full-bodied yet elegant, with well-integrated tannins, bright acidity and a long, refined finish. It stands as a benchmark example of a traditionally crafted Barolo offering exceptional value and regional character.
